Empowering Independence with the Home Help Program
Michigan’s Home Help program is similar to CDPAP in New York. Funded by Michigan Medicaid, it allows people to receive care at home from a trusted caregiver, often a family member or friend. The caregiver is paid by Medicaid with no cost to the person receiving care.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Home Help program is run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It provides personal care services to people who need hands-on help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and eating, as well as home activities like cooking and cleaning.
Caregivers in Michigan are paid by the state through Medicaid. This means the person who receives care does not pay the caregiver. The current Michigan Home Help caregiver pay at BURD Home Health is up to $20.00 per hour. All caregivers must be eligible to work in the United States.
Caregivers do not need special certifications, but they must enroll in the MDHHS CHAMPS Provider Enrollment system to receive Medicaid payments. BURD Home Health can help you with this process and make sure caregivers meet all requirements.
Caregivers must be at least 18 years old to qualify for the program.
No. Medicare alone does not meet the state’s requirements for this program. You must have Medicaid and meet other state rules to qualify. If you have questions about your coverage, our team can help you review your options.
Medicare is a federal program for people who are 65 or older or have certain disabilities. Medicaid is for people with low incomes and is run by both the state and federal government, so rules can vary by state.
